2019-20 మధ్యంతర బడ్జెట్కు లోక్సభ ఆమోదం తెలిపింది. ప్రతిపక్ష కాంగ్రెస్, సీపీఐ ఎంపీలు ప్రభుత్వానికి వ్యతిరేకంగా నినాదాలు చేశారు. సభలో మెజారిటీ సభ్యులు బడ్జెట్కు అనుకూలంగా ఓటేసినందున స్పీకర్ బడ్జెట్కు ఆమోదముద్ర వేశారు.

ప్రభుత్వ తీరును వ్యతిరేకిస్తూ కాంగ్రెస్, సీపీఐ, ఎన్సీపీ పార్టీల ఎంపీలు సభనుంచి వాకౌట్ చేశారు.

కాంగ్రెస్ సభ్యుల తీరుపై కేంద్ర ఆర్థిక మంత్రి పీయూష్ గోయల్ మండిపడ్డారు. బడ్జెట్కు వ్యతిరేకంగా నిరసనలు చేస్తున్న వారిపై ఆగ్రహం వ్యక్తం చేశారు. అద్దాల మేడల్లో నివసించే వారికి రూ.2 వేల విలువ తెలియదు, అందుకే 'ప్రధాన మంత్రి కిసాన్ సమ్మాన్ నిధి' పథకాన్ని చులకన చేసి మాట్లాడుతున్నారని విమర్శలు చేశారు.

"It's a big worry (Brexit) and a big shock for us because the UK is our biggest market.  We were sending at that stage (at the time of the referendum) 80 per cent of our oysters to the UK and the first step we took was to diversify into new markets because it was too risky to be exposed at that level to one market and it was very frustrating because we've been selling oysters into the UK for such a long time; they were familiar with our oysters, they liked our oysters.  We have customers that we like to deal with, we ring them up three times a week. You know, my sister Charm works in the office, she knows all their names, she knows their children's names, it's very frustrating that those barriers (are) put in place and when everything was working so well and so easy - to go back from that to make things more difficult, less efficient, more expensive, it is very frustrating to be put in that situation."

"We sell a lot of small deliveries two or three times a week into restaurants. They want fresh oysters two or three times a week, they're small deliveries, there's a likelihood of a customs handling fee of the order of about 50 euros will make those kind of deliveries unviable and that is a big worry.  And even for our bigger customers, again they might buy quite a lot every month off us but they want two or three deliveries a week so they are small enough deliveries and the customs charges are going to be a significant cost."

"The other thing oysters are alive. Customers want them quickly, we can get them there within 16 hours. If theres' a delay at the port or the airport for six hours - instead it's going to be - they leave here in the afternoon and they are on the table in the restaurant from midday the next day.  But if you have a six-hour delay then it's going to be a two-day delivery.  That has its problems as well."

"The uncertainty is so great we don't know what degree of Brexit we are planning for.  So it's very, very hard to plan for that.  And if you're planning for the worst-case scenario, it means pulling out of that market completely and how can you take steps towards that when you don't know if that's going to be a certainty."

STORYLINE:
The prospect of a no-deal Brexit is causing great anxiety for an Irish oyster company that sells its produce to top restaurants in Europe and Asia.
The Carlingford Oyster Company, in Ireland's County Louth, says business is booming.
But managing director Kian Louet-Feisser is afraid that exports to the UK, by far the company's most lucrative market, will no longer be viable if new customs taxes are levied.
Louet-Feisser is also worried about the prospect of customs delays, which would mean the oysters are not as fresh when they reach their final destination.
Before the 2016 referendum on the United Kingdom's membership of the European Union, 80 per cent of Carlingford's oysters were exported to the UK.
But after the pro-Brexit result the company decided to diversify as a safety measure.  It has reduced its exports by half to the UK and now sells 50 per cent of its annual 2.5 million oysters to Asia.
Carlingford harvests its oysters from the crystal-clear spring water of Carlingford Lough, a glacial fjord tha forms part of the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
The company says the oysters are mixed with incoming salt water from the Irish Sea, giving them a distinctive taste that ensures they are feted at fine dining tables in London, Singapore, Shanghai and Hong Kong.
Louet-Feisser's father set up the company in the mid 70s. He was a Dutchman who fell in love with Ireland during a visit to the country and decided to stay.
In those days, oysters were sold to a local distributor who did all the processing and selling.
But Louet-Feisser has invested in machinery so that the company can prepare its own oysters for sale and bypass the third parties.
He has been attending regular seminars on exporting after Brexit but with fewer than 50 days to go until the UK is due to leave the EU, Louet-Feisser and his employers can only watch helplessly as the clock ticks down with no deal in sight.
