Folk cultures will be highlighted at the China Media Group (CMG) Lantern Festival Gala to be aired Tuesday.
Operas from south and north China will be sung at the gala which finished recording on Sunday. For example, an opera show called "Golden Pig Sends Luck to You" gathers clown characters of ten folk operas in order to appeal to audience across China.
Chao Opera, a specialty in south China's Guangdong Province, will be put on at the gala for the first time since the event started 34 years ago. The Chao Opera show at the gala depicts a romance at the Lantern Festival
"Opera is the best representative of local culture. At the Lantern Festival, people will get out to watch the Moon and lanterns, and this is the most representative of the Lantern Festival," said Wei Daosheng, director of opera shows of the gala.
A comedy skit will also be performed in dialect of Chengdu City, southwest China’s Sichuan Province to cater to different audience. It is the first time a comedy skit is performed in the Chengdu dialect.
