1. German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas and Foreign Minister of the Dominican Republic Miguel Vargas arriving for news conference
2. SOUNDBITE (German) Heiko Maas, German Foreign Minister:
"For us, it is perfectly clear that security aspects must also play a role in Germany. Those who want to return to Germany in order to escape prosecution - this, in our view, is unacceptable. That is why we must examine each individual case. We need information about those affected, so that we can issue appropriate investigations, criminal proceedings and arrest warrants. This is a difficult process."
3. Cutaway of camera
4. SOUNDBITE (German) Heiko Maas, German Foreign Minister:
"We agree that we recognise Juan Guaido as an interim president and that there should be free, fair and transparent elections for the office of president. Yesterday there was a meeting of the foreign ministers of the European Union, there was also very intensive discussion about this, and it was agreed that international pressure must be maintained to ensure that the intolerable conditions for the civilian population in Venezuela cease, that humanitarian access is finally guaranteed."
5. Maas and Vargas at news conference
6. SOUNDBITE (Spanish) Miguel Vargas, Foreign Minister of the Dominican Republic:
"We both agreed on the need for a peaceful, democratic and definitive solution through an electoral process in Venezuela for presidential elections to end the crisis which is so bad for the Venezuelan people."
7. Maas and Vargas shaking hands after news conference
8. Ministers leaving
STORYLINE:
Germany's Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said Tuesday that US President Donald Trump's demand that European countries take back Islamic State group (IS) fighters held in Syria would be "a difficult process" to conduct.
In a weekend tweet, Trump urged Britain, France, Germany and others to take back militants and put them on trial.
"For us, it is perfectly clear that security aspects must also play a role in Germany", said Maas.
He made the comments during a news conference with his Dominican Republic counterpart Miguel Vargas - the pair had earlier met for talks.
Both also spoke about the ongoing crisis in Venezuela.
"International pressure must be maintained", Maas said.
He reiterated that Germany recognises Juan Guaido as an interim president and that there should be "free, fair and transparent elections" in the country.
The US and widespread European recognition of Juan Guaido complicates socialist President Nicolas Maduro's efforts to find funds to keep his government, and its own food programmes, running.
"We both agreed on the need for a peaceful, democratic and definitive solution through an electoral process in Venezuela", Vargas said.
