Fire at a warehouse in central Kolkata

Kolkata: A fire broke out on Friday afternoon at a warehouse adjacent to the iconic Jyoti Cinema Hall in central Kolkata’s Lenin Sarani. Nine fire tenders have reached the spot to extinguish the fire. The firemen and the fire tenders are operating on an emergency basis to bring the fire under control. No casualty has been reported so far. Fire department sources said that suddenly at around 12 noon the local people saw black smoke gushing out of the building. The fire brigade was immediately informed. But by the time the fire tenders reached the spot the entire place was under a blanket of black smoke. The fire officers realised that if the fire spreads to the adjacent buildings then the calamity might take an alarming shape. So they immediately evacuated all the people from the building and started the process of arresting the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings. “The building houses two offices, both of which were fortunately closed. Our firefighters have broken the glass windows of the buildings to expedite the fire extinguishing process. The reason for the fire is not yet known,” he said.
