In the world of Allopathy, we are now also heading in the direction of choosing alternative therapies, including homeopathy and Ayurveda. Ayurveda has been in the Indian medical system for almost 5000 years. Seeing the current situation of the pandemic, many doctors dealing with these practises have also come forward for the battle with COVID-19. Many herbal remedies to boost immunity have been suggested and certain medications are under trials. Let’s see what our experts have to say about this on the special occasion, as India celebrates Doctors’ Day.
Our Ayurvedic expert, Dr. Ranganayakulu says, “The medical establishments in the current situations have been over-burdened with thousands of cases coming up every day due to the novel coronavirus. The best we can do is educate the public and give them proper guidance. People should understand that it is a crucial time and doctors too are suffering a lot. Thus, they should not abuse them and rather stand as pillars behind them”.
Dr. Anjali, Homeopathic physician says, “More importance should be given to early detection, which will help in providing early treatment and hence, lessening the mortality. People also need to understand the severity of the disease and get themselves tested on time. I also strongly discourage people from coming to my clinic unnecessarily or for small problems that can be managed at home and rather prefer tele-medicine, unless there is an emergency”.
The fight has been going on for a while now, however, patience is the key. Prof. Dr. Rajyalakshmi Madhavam, MD Ayurveda says, “Don’t panic! There are many infections that we have fought in the past and gradually we will find a solution to this novel coronavirus as well. Ayurvedic doctors have been very active and herbs like guduchi, ashwagandha, pipli, etc. have proved to be beneficial in this disease and are under trials. We are trying to do our best in this fight with the novel coronavirus”.
The pandemic has affected us mentally and our Homeopathic Expert Dr. Aditya Tiwari tells, “Being a homeopathic psychiatrist, I have been dealing with people having stress, anxiety and depression, especially due to the pandemic. Therefore, I always stress on believing in only the facts and have a different and positive perspective towards life as well as the current situation”.
Messages For Public
Avoid Rumours
Dr. Ranganayakulu says, “Differentiating between the facts and rumours is very important. Lots of messages are floating on social media, claiming false or half-truth. People should not believe in them and only follow the information on authentic and reliable platforms like WHO, ICMR, MoHFW, CDC, etc.”.
Stop Unnecessary Travel And Be Responsible
Although the country is unlocking and shops are re-opening, Dr. Anjali stresses on the fact that people should stay home. “Visit to your nearest stores or health clinics as per the requirements, while following general preventive measures. Sensitization, awareness and responsibility are important. In case of any symptoms, get yourself tested before you spread it to others around you”.
Be Cooperative
Dr. Aditya says, “Doctors are expected to cure anything and everything and being under this impression, people fail to acknowledge their responsibility towards their own health. Probably that’s why we see so many people roaming around without masks and not following the general precautions. Therefore, this attitude should be changed and people should cooperate with the doctors”.
Improve Your Immunity
Physical, mental and social well-being is important for a healthy life suggests Dr. Rajyalakshmi. “A strong immunity will help us fight not just COVID-19, but many other diseases as well. We also need to inculcate good food regime, lifestyle and a proper sleep cycle in our daily routine, as they all are responsible for a better immunity. A daily 30-40 minutes of exercise is important for everyone. Apart from this, live a stress free life, away from negativity”, she adds.
Therefore, seeing all the doctors from all the medical fraternity gives us even more strength and assurance that soon we will emerge victorious in our battle with COVID-19. However, we also need to be responsible citizens and support all the frontline workers and wish for their well-being.
