Kolkata: Kolkata Police seized a large quantity of Yaba tablets from the city in overnight raids and arrested three persons, including a Bangladeshi national, from different parts of the city in connection with it on Saturday.
The seizures were made by the Special Task Force of Kolkata Police since Friday late night and the three arrested have been sent to police custody when produced before the court.
The tablets, also called Amphetamines or party drugs were meant to be sold to college students, the official said but did not divulge the value of the seizure.
One person was arrested on Saturday morning from the city's Strand Road area following the seizure of a quantity of Yaba tablets from his possession, a senior official of the force said.
The other two, including the Bangladeshi national, were picked up by the anti-fake Indian currency notes team of the STF following the seizure of 14000 tablets from their possession during a raid near Garden Reach Majerhat flyover in the city late on Friday night following a tip-off.
The tablets were packed in seven packets, he said adding the duo are being interrogated for details of the gang they worked for.
"The raids were part of our continuous monitoring of the narcotics drug business in West Bengal. We had information about the duo from another person who was arrested from Park Circus area in the city in July," he said.
On July 15, Kolkata Police had arrested one person from near a reputed school in the Park Street area and packets of cannabis were seized from him.
