Kolkata: A young woman ended her life allegedly by hanging self from ceiling at her residence in West Bengal's Hooghly district, after sending a picture of attempting the act to her lover, police said on Wednesday.
Rima Das, a resident of Kotrong Colony market locality of Uttarpara, was declared brought dead by the doctors after her family members took to a local hospital in the city on Tuesday evening.
According to reports, the locals vandalised the house of Panchanan after the deceased's family held him liable for the act of suicide committed by the girl. Subsequently, the accused was arrested by the police.
"Panchanan had come to meet the girl when she was alone in the house. She was found hanging in her room soon after he left," said a source.
Rima Das's family alleged that the accused used to make monetary demands and would beat her up whenever she refused to give her money, while, on the other hand, Panchanan's family claimed that the young woman committed suicide as her family opposed to their relationship.
