North 24 Parganas: Tension prevailed at Minakhan block in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district after Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Barik Mollah was shot at and hospitalized in a critical condition.
Initially, he was admitted to Minakhan Rural Hospital. However, as the situation deteriorated, he was shifted to SSKM Hospital in Kolkata.
As per reports, an activist of the All India Secular Front (AISF) has been arrested in connection with the incident by the Minakhan Police.
The police said that the incident took place at Bagra village under Minakhan Police Station on Sunday night when Mollah had gone to attend a programme.

The miscreants fired a few rounds of bullets and Mollah was shot at from a close range, they said.
The police further said that they have arrested a person related to the incident and the matter is being investigated.
However, TMC block president of Minakhan, Mrityunjoy Mondal said since Minakhan is the party's stronghold, the Opposition parties are resorting to such a condemnable act. “However, they will not be able to defeat us,” he added.
