Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday alleged that the incident of a gun-wielding man barging into a school in the State's Malda district and trying to take the students hostage may have been a conspiracy.

Speaking to reporters regarding the incident the Chief Minister said that the incident may not have been an outcome of mental health issues of the man but a part of a conspiracy. " The incident of a man entering a school in Malda wielding a gun may not have been an act of lunacy," said Mamata adding that there may have been a conspiracy behind it.

As to how the man entered the school without an ID card, the Chief Minister said that the people of rural Bengal easily trust others and might have thought that the man was a guardian of some student. " In these days, you cannot trust everyone so easily. We can arrange security guards for schools. The school authorities may also ask the police for help.

Her comments come hours after a man entered into a school in Malda and tried to hold the student's hostage. However, after being overpowered and disarmed by police, the accused said that he was trying to exert pressure on the administration to his year-old complaint that his wife and son were missing. However, locals said that the man has been suffering from mental health issues and his wife and son have been living separately from him.

As for the recent attack on a police station at Kaliaganj in Uttar Dinajpur district, the Chief Minister alleged that BJP was behind the violence and brought outsiders to create unrest in the State.

" Outsiders were brought in to set fire to Kaliaganj police station as well as ordinary people's property. Police will explore attaching properties of those involved in rioting," Chief Minister said.

She further alleged that the miscreants brought by the BJP set fire to the Kaliaganj police station. " They planned the entire violence," said Mamata. With regard to the death of a minor girl, the Chief Minister said that the matter will be investigated and action will be taken as per law. She further alleged that the Centre was always trying to disturb Opposition-ruled states.
