Man from West Bengal travels in bus with infant son's body in bag as he could not afford ambulance

A man from a village in West Bengal travelled in a bus with his infant son's body by stuffing it in a bag as he could not afford an ambulance. The inhuman incident came to light on Sunday when the victim narrated his ordeal to near and dear ones.

Raiganj (West Bengal): In a heart-rending incident, a man carried his infant son's body in a bus from Siliguri to Kaliaganj after stuffing it in a bag as he could not hire an ambulance as the driver demanded a huge amount, which he could not afford. As soon as the news of the incident came to light, BJP leaders lashed out at the TMC government for not providing ambulance facilities to the poor.

According to family sources, the wife of Ashim Debsharma, a resident of Dangipara village in Mustafanagar panchayat of Kaliaganj block, gave birth to twins. After five months, two children fell ill. Both of them were admitted to Kaliaganj State General Hospital on May 7. As their condition deteriorated, they were shifted to Raiganj Government Medical College and Hospital on May 8. But, the health of those two children does not improve instead worsened. In that scenario, two children were shifted to Siliguri Medical College and Hospital.

They were admitted to Siliguri Medical College and Hospital on May 10. A child was discharged from the medical college on May 11 as his condition improved. Immediately, the mother and her infant went to Kaliaganj as Ashim Debsharma was sick, he stayed in the hospital with another son.

Meanwhile, the infant, who was undergoing treatment, died on May 13 night. After that, it was alleged that when Asim Babu wanted to hire an ambulance to take his son's body, the driver demanded Rs 8,000. As he had spent around Rs 16,000 on the treatment of his infants, he does not have money.

Hence, he left the medical college with the body of his son stuffed in a bag on Sunday. He came from Siliguri to Raiganj by bus keeping the body in a bag. After reaching Kaliaganj by private bus, he narrated his ordeal to his near and dear ones. On learning about the incident, BJP leaders arranged an ambulance to take them to their native place. Ashim reached his residence in Dangipara, along with his son's body

As soon as this incident came to light, BJP's Gauranga Das condemned the inhuman incident and said, "This situation will happen if the poor people do not have money. Is the government working? he questioned.
