Shamsherganj (Murshidabad): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday showed her desperation to join forces against the BJP-led Centre urging the Opposition party to join hands to dethrone the Modi government from power in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Banerjee, who is known for her strident opposition to the BJP-led government spoke about her desire to defeat BJP at a public meeting in Murshidabad district. "Before the upcoming elections, I would like to say that all the opposition parties should unite and fight to defeat the BJP. Let any party fight alone where it is strong. I have no objection. I am trying to forge unity among anti-BJP parties,” Mamata said at the public meeting.

She also slammed the Centre for depriving West Bengal of welfare schemes meant for people of the state. Mamata also alleged that the Modi government has deliberately withheld funds for central projects. She also promised to allocate Rs 100 crore to prevent Ganga erosion. The Chief Minister also visited the area affected by Ganga erosion in Samserganj.

Mamata Banerjee's frequent public outreach is seen as means to drum up support for her party. Not even a year is left for the Lok Sabha elections and the BJP is all geared up for winning the election which is going to be held early next year. TMC is desperate to stop the BJP juggernaut at any cost. Mamata Banerjee has time and again expressed her desire to anchor alliance among all anti-BJP parties. Just before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, she held a meeting at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata, bringing together all the anti-BJP forces. Her efforts, however, failed to bring positive result as BJP stormed to power by securing more than 300 seats and Narendra Modi became Prime Minister for the second straight term.
