Kolkata: A CISF jawan opened fire from his service weapon in Kolkata's Park Street area on Saturday killing one of his colleagues and seriously injuring several others. Police sources said that a CISF operative opened fire targetting a CISF barrack in the area. The accused has been arrested.
According to police sources, the deceased has been identified as Ranjit Sarangi. They further revealed that the accused jawan was deployed at the Indian Museum in the Park Street area. Police said that the injured has been taken to the SSKM Hospital.
They further revealed that the accused CISF jawan fired indiscriminately from his AK-47 rifle. Following the incident, the accused hid inside the museum premises with his weapon. Police sources said that commandoes of Kolkata Police along with other CISF officials and jawans cordoned off the area.

Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyel reached the spot wearing a bullet-proof jacket and metal headgear. They also said that it took over an hour to finally disarm the accused CISF jawan and arrest him. " The accused holds the rank of head constable and the deceased is an ASI. About 15 rounds were fired during the incident," said Goyel.
This is the second incident of security personnel firing indiscriminately on Kolkata street in the last three months. A Kolkata Police constable, deputed for the security of Bangladesh Deputy High Commission at busy Park Circus, opened fire with his Insas rifle, killing one woman, before taking his own life by suicide on June 10.
