Kolkata: Kolkata police on Tuesday arrested Sanatan Roy Chowdhury, a high court lawyer, over allegations of forgery and impersonation of public servant. The accused used to travel in a car with a blue beacon and claimed to be Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officer and public prosecutor. In addition, Roy Chowdhury’s vehicle had a sticker of CBI.
The police have seized a letter pad of BJP’s Delhi unit from the accused. Besides several pictures of him along with Rudranil Ghosh and other BJP leaders were also recovered from his possession. Incidentally, Ghosh was the BJP candidates from Bhowanipur assembly constituency in the recently concluded state assembly elections.
This comes days after the arrest of Debanjan Deb, the fake IAS officer connected to the Kasba bogus vaccination camp. Trinamool Congress leaders were in soup after pictures and videos of Deb along with several top ruling party leaders surfaced.
Ghosh said that as far he recollects he met Roy Chowdhury in a programme, where the latter introduced himself as a lawyer. “Being associated with the cinema world, I have to attend many programmes and meet lot of people. It is not possible for me to crosscheck the background of each and every one of them,” he said.
The common factor between Deb and Roy Chowdhury is that both used blue-beacon vehicles to hoodwink the state government and police.
