Kolkata: With the battle cry of 'Khela Hobe' on her lips and football in her hands, a wheelchair-bound Mamata Banerjee had single-handedly taken over the BJP diatribes during the Assembly election campaign earlier this year. The popular slogan got massive attention during poll campaigning when Mamata once threw football towards the crowd. And she has reaped the dividends by returning to the hustings with stunning over 200 numbers in the Assembly for the third time in a row.

On Tuesday, while taking part in the discussion on the inaugural speech of the Governor during the ongoing Budget session, the West Bengal Chief Minister declared that her government will soon select a day and commemorate it as “Khela Hobe Divas” (Khela Hobe Day). On the day, which is yet to be finalised, 50,000 footballs will be distributed among clubs across the state to popularise the sport, Mamata told the Assembly.
