Kolkata: The Election Commission on Sunday removed West Bengal's Bankura district magistrate Umashankar SK from his post with immediate effect and appointed Mukta Arya in his place.
Arya has been asked to take charge on Monday and the state government directed to send a compliance report by 10 am on Monday.
Though the Election Commission did not specify why the Election Commission removed Umashankar SK from the post of the district magistrate, according to news sources Umashankar has been charged with non-cooperation with the Election Commission. Apart from this, BJP has accused him of favouring the Trinamool Congress.
Election Commission has given this directive after the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha polls.
Polling was held in Bankura on Sunday.
