Baishnagnagar (West Bengal): BJP's star campaigner Mithun Chakraborty landed in trouble on Saturday after the administration noticed rampant flouting of COVID-19 protocols at the superstar’s election rally for BJP at Baishnabnagar in Malda district of West Bengal.

The Malda district magistrate and the district election administrator, Rajarshi Mitra has directed the administration to immediately file an FIR against the organizers of the rally.

The development is unprecedented in view of the northward graphs of the COVID-19 infected individuals as well as the rising death figure. Mitra even called up BJP’s district president in Malda, Gobinda Chandra Mondal and sought his explanation about such rampant violations of COVID-19 protocols. Although BJP’s district president admitted that there were violations of protocols, his excuse was that they just succumbed to the emotion of the local people.

“As per the Election Commission’s directive, we arranged the rally and arranged for the accommodation of just 500 people. But people gathered at the venue in thousands to have a glimpse of the superstar. We admit the Election Commission’s directives were flouted. But we are not responsible for this,” he said.

Besides the superstar, the mega rally at Baishnabnagar High School was attended by BJP candidate from Baishnabnagar assembly constituency, Swadhin Kumar Sarkar and the party’s state general secretary, Sayantan Basu, among others. Thousands of people flocked at the rally ground.

Without naming the chief minister, Mamata Banerjee, Mithun Chakraborty criticized her. He also detailed what BJP plans to do for the development of the state if it comes to power after the elections.

“Everyone should vote. Otherwise, the dream for a Golden Bengal will never be fulfilled. Swadhin Kumar Sarkar needs to get elected; we want him the state cabinet. We need an honest man like him. If a single person in BJP is involved with extortion he would be immediately kicked out of the party. The current ruling party is scared of the inevitable defeat. So they want to spoil the polling process. West Bengal will turn around within six months from the day BJP will come to power. There will be no violence. Ayusman Bharat will be introduced in Bengal,” he said.
