Dehradun: The Uttarakhand government has suspended fresh registration for Kedarnath Yatra till May 25 in view of inclement weather conditions, officials said on Monday. The new registrations will resume the very next day on May 26 as per officials. Recently, the registration of pilgrims for the Kedarnath yatra was suspended by the authorities till Apr. 30 in Rishikesh and Haridwar due to rain and snowfall in the upper reaches of the Garhwal Himalayas.
The extension in the suspension of the registration has been taken in view of an adverse weather forecast by the Meteorological Department in the Himalayan region. Kedarnath on Sunday experienced fresh snowfall. Superintendent of Police (Rudraprayag) Vishakha Ashok Bhadane urged the devotees to follow the weather updates and carry the essential items with them to the yatra.
In a video statement, SSP Rudraprayag urged the devotees to carry umbrellas, raincoats and essential medicines with them on the yatra. It is worth mentioning that that due to heavy snowfall and bad weather, the devotees to Kedarnath Yatra are facing a lot of problems with the region witnessing a significant drop in the temperature.
The accumulation of the snow on the footpaths leading to Kedarnath is giving a tough time both to the devotees and the administration in clearing the track. An official said that only those devotees who have already done their registration for the Kedarnath Yatra will be allowed to proceed to the Dhams. In view of the inclement weather in the state, the Uttarakhand government has urged the Kedarnath yatris to check the weather before proceeding further on their pilgrimage.
It can be recalled that the shrines of Gangotri and Yamunotri opened for the Kedarnath yatris on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya on Apr. 22, the Badrinath Dham opened on Apr. 27. released a clip from Kedarnath that showed snow falling over the Himalayan temple.
