Uttarakhand Congress leaders meet Rahul Gandhi to discuss election strategies

Amid the leadership stalemate in Uttarakhand Congress, state leaders on Monday met Rahul Gandhi and discussed the name for the new Leader of Opposition (LoP) of the state.

New Delhi: Amid the leadership stalemate in Uttarakhand Congress, state leaders on Monday met Rahul Gandhi and discussed the name for the new Leader of Opposition (LoP) of the state.

Speaking to the media after the meeting with Rahul Gandhi, Devender Yadav, In-Charge of Uttarakhand Congress, said, "Uttarakhand is going to polls in 2022. I discussed with Rahul Gandhi how to move ahead and on which issues. Congress has always maintained that all discussions should be held in a democratic way, considering all advice."

On being asked that whether the party has decided its candidate face for the assembly elections, he said, "CM face will be decided in time. We don't see Uttarakhand as a laboratory like the BJP. They have to change CMs every three months, we don't want to take such decisions. We will find a solution which will provide a vision for the state."

Notably, before meeting Rahul Gandhi, a coordination committee under the leadership of Devender Yadav met Monday afternoon and decided on the name of Leader of Opposition, strategy for the upcoming assembly election, said sources.

The leaders present in the meeting were Uttarakhand Congress Chief Pritam Singh, Deputy Leader of Opposition in Uttarakhand assembly Karan Mahara, Rajya Sabha MP Pradeep Tamta and former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat.
