Dehradun (Uttarakhand): In a show of gratitude, a Spanish mountaineer has decided to rename a peak in his country in honour of an IAS officer from Uttarakhand, who had helped him during his visit to the state.
On his visit to Uttarakhand back in 2018, the mountaineer Juan Antonio had asked for then Uttarkashi District Magistrate Ashish Chauhan's help. Chauhan happily obliged, and apart from helping the mountaineer, also provided him with valuable tips about the region's physical geography.
Chauhan had given Antonio his phone number and assured to provide him with any help if he required. Antonio was highly impressed with Chauhan's pleasant behaviour and efficient working.
In a show of gratitude, after he recently scaled a virgin (unnamed) peak in Spain, Antonio informed Chauhan that he has decided to name the peak as "Magistrate's tip" and the access path to it as "Via Ashish".
Chauhan, who is currently posted as the Additional Secretary (Civil Aviation) shared the news on social media.
"I feel extremely proud sharing this news with you. During my tenure in Uttarkashi, I had helped a Spanish mountaineer, who has informed me that a virgin peak he had scaled is being named after me," he wrote on Facebook.
Antonio said that the new name will be registered with the official mountaineering department in Spain.
