Last minute video of missing Nanda Devi climbers revealed

Last minute video of mountaineers climbing the Nanda Devi trek has been revealed. The video was recorded on a GoPro found with a dead body covered in snow. It shows all of them trekking up before an avalanche hit them. About 8 troops have gone missing on the same trek until now.

Chamoli: A video from the last day of the mountaineers climbing the Nanda Devi peak has come to the light. Officers from ITBP on Monday said that the video is very heart-wrenching. The people who died had slipped on ice due to an avalanche.

The 2 minutes 34 seconds video shows 4 Britishers, 2 Americans, 1 Australian and an Indian guide climbing the peak. But they slipped on a narrow path on their way up.

ITBP speaker Vivek Kumar said," We suddenly heard a noise and the video became blank. Prior to this, they were moving forward with the help of a rope. Possibly due to their weight, the ice broke and invited an avalanche.

The camera was found with the last man in the line whose body was recovered covered in snow.

"The video is unforgettable and heart-wrenching. It would help us analyze what went wrong during the mission, "ITBP Deputy Inspector General APS Nambadia said.

"The GoPro acted as an aircraft's black box for us. It was challenging for us to conduct the search operation on the height of 6100 meters."

He also said that the last contact they had with the Mountaineers was on May 26. A day before that, there was snowfall in the region.

Around 8 troops that went on to climb the Nanda Devi trek have gone missing until now. The Nanda Devi East campaign, run by Himalayan Run and Trek Private Limited had departed from Delhi on May 10. It consisted of 12 members.
