Ramnagar: A group of tourists were attacked by a herd of elephants near Bhakrakot village in Nainital district of Uttarakhand on Wednesday after their cars blocked the passage of the herd near a temple. However, no casualties or injuries were reported during the incident.
The area falls under the limits of Corbett Tiger Reserve and Almora Forest Division.
The herd of elephants also included their calves which were coming from Kosi riverside. They pushed away two cars which were in their way and were parked on the roadside. The video of the attack went viral on social media.
In the video, one of the elephants first attacked a black car and damaged it. Two more elephants, including a calf, joined the suit. They pushed another white car, parked on the other side, down the road.
The tourists, hailing from Almora, were stuck inside the car when the herd attacked them. The attack lasted for more than 15 minutes.
The people who witnessed the incident informed the Forest department officials but the herd had already left the spot.
