Uttar Pradesh doctor succumbs to COVID-19 in Delhi

A doctor from Uttar Pradesh who tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday died in Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital on Saturday.

Bulandshahr: A 58-year-old doctor from Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh succumbed to the deadly novel coronavirus after being under treatment for over a month, an official said on Saturday.

According to reports, Devendra Kumar on Friday tested positive for COVID-19 in Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital. Further, his wife and son have been kept under isolation and their swab sample test results are awaited.

The doctor who owned a clinic in Bulandshahr suddenly fell sick weeks ago after which he was taken to a district hospital wherein his health condition unexpectedly declined, a source said.

Officials explained, his family continued to change nearly three hospitals in their district for his immediate recovery but to no avail. However, on April 8, he was finally taken to Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital.

The clinic and his residential area has been cordoned off. Meanwhile an investigation has begun to trace all people who came in contact with the doctor and his family, police added.

Uttar Pradesh on Saturday recorded 431 active cases of COVID-19 with four casualties so far.
