Bareilly (Uttar Pradesh): A woman suffered severe burn injuries after her father and her brother-in-law allegedly threw acid on her two days after her marriage. The incident took place when they got to know about her love affair, police officials said. The two accused also took the help of two other relatives who are currently on the run. The case came to light on April 25 when the woman, badly injured, was found in the forest along the road leading up to Agras village. The police have arrested the victim's brother-in-law and the father on charges of attempt to murder.
Additional Superintendent of Police Rajkumar Aggarwal said that police reached the spot and got the injured woman admitted to the hospital. According to police sources, the father along with three other relatives tried to kill her daughter with acid after learning about her alleged love affair. On questioning, the injured woman revealed her identity and the names of the accused. Following this, the police contacted her relatives.

During interrogation, the police noticed contradictions in the statements of the family members. It was later found out that the father and the son-in-law had tortured the victim with acid used for cleaning toilets. On questioning it was learnt that the victim used to talk to her lover after marriage, even at her in-law's place. This enraged the woman's in-laws and her father and they committed the crime.
The police have taken the accused father identified as Totaram and her brother-in-law Dinesh into custody. They are currently being interrogated. Among the two other accused one has been identified as Prempal while the identity of the other is yet to be totally ascertained. The police have launched a search operation to nab them.
