Lakhimpur Kheri: A woman and her daughter were saved from the act of human trafficking on Saturday in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur.

A local social worker helped both, who are from Chhattisgarh, in Lakhimpur's Kotwali Sadar area.

The woman had fled from her native state to Haridwar after she had an argument with her family around two months back.

There she met a woman hailing from Bilaspur who befriended her and brought her to Uttar Pradesh.

The victim stayed with her for a period of two months in the hope of getting a job.

When she realised that the intentions of her host were not good- as she was planning to sell them- she moved out with her 10-year-old daughter and started living in a leprosy ashram, where the woman still pursued her.

Mohan Bajpai, a social worker who regularly visits the ashram, came to know the plight of the woman and he decided to help her out.

He sent them to a nearby One Stop Centre for Women in crisis.

The centre's counsellor Mohammad Mujib told that the Bilaspur Police officials have been informed and soon appropriate action will be taken.
