Bareilly (Uttar Pradesh): In its zeal to ensure strict compliance of traffic rules, police in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly committed a rather silly error, as as a man was issued a challan for driving his car without wearing a helmet.
According to reports, Anish Narula, a businessman, was surprised to see an e-challan against his car, which directed him to pay Rs 500 for not wearing a helmet while driving his Hyundai Creta.
The shocked businessman then complained to the authorities about the faux pas.
Speaking about the incident, Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Subhash Chandra Gangwar said that it was due to an error on the part of a sub-inspector.
"Such errors have been reported in the past as well. While entering details for an e-challan, the options for driving without a seatbelt and riding without a helmet are placed one below the other, which might lead to errors while tapping on the touchscreen device," he said.
Meanwhile, Gangwar said that the businessman was asked to submit an application, following which the issue has been rectified.
