Lucknow: A day after a woman leader of the Samajwadi Party (SP) was physically abused when she had gone to file nominations for local polls, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday ordered the suspension of all policemen including Circle Officer from Lakhimpur Kheri police station.
As per the reports, the accused who misbehaved with the woman has been arrested. The accused is said to be a supporter of an independent candidate. However, the local police are investigating the matter thoroughly.
Giving strict orders to police administration, CM Adityanath said that under no circumstances any attempt to spoil the atmosphere will be accepted. He also asked the police force to be prepared with extra vigilance and sensitivity.
Speaking to the media after the incident, Ritu Singh, Samajwadi Party's Pasgawan block candidate, alleged that she was stopped by the BJP workers from filing the nomination and was assaulted by them.
SP leader Kranti Kumar Singh told that at the time when all this was happening, BJP's national vice president and Dhaurhara MP Rekha Verma and BJP MLA Lokendra Pratap Singh were also present at the nomination centre. Singh alleged that the incident took place on the behest of the saffron party.
It is worth mentioning here the video of the incident has gone viral on social media where SP candidate Ritu Singh's proposer Anita is seen being assaulted by a few people. Condemning this incident, SP leader and former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav slammed the Yogi government and accused BJP workers of indulging in anarchy in order to win elections.
