Firozabad: Three arrested persons from West Bengal who were being taken to Haryana by the police for an appearance before the Sonepat court escaped from police custody at Shikohabad railway station in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday. The three arrested persons travelling on Farakka Express jumped from the train. The trio escaped from the Haryana police custody when the train stopped at Shikohabad railway station. Upon being alerted by the Haryana police, the personnel from UP Government Railway Police (GRP) swung into action and arrested one of the escapees. While two others managed to escape.
Uttar Pradesh police have launched a manhunt to trace the remaining two accused. The trio are the residents of West Bengal. The Haryana police arrested them on April 26. Firozabad GRP's Senior Sub-Inspector Chaman Goswami said, "The Haryana police arrested Uttam Varman, Noor Islam Mandal and Fardus Mandal in connection with the cybercrime. They arrested them on April 26 from Ramkishanpur Chak near the Bangladesh border. The Haryana police were taking, along with them, by Farakka Express train."
"The train was approaching Shikohabad railway station in Firozabad district, between 12 and 1 in the night. When the train slowed down near the outer signal. The three arrested persons escaped jumping from the train," said the sub-inspector, adding, "The Haryana police ASI Jogendra Singh informed us about the absconding prisoners. On receiving the information, we swung into action. One person Uttam Verman was arrested, along with handcuffs. While two others escaped."
"An FIR has been registered against the three prisoners. Besides, the matter is being investigated. The negligence of the cops will also be investigated. If found guilty case will be lodged against guilty cops also," said the UP GRP official.
