Agra: With some perpetrators of the violence that took place during last week's anti-citizenship law protests in neighbouring Firozabad taking refuge in Agra, police went undercover and one of its personnel disguised as a banana seller to hunt them down.

Police received intelligence inputs about the presence of some mischief-makers involved in the Firozabad violence in Agra city, SHO of Mantola police station, Jeetendra Kumar said.

Anti-citizenship law protesters clashed with the police after Friday prayers in UP's Firozabad, a city that had previously not been hit by the agitation. Protesters set on fire at least six vehicles, including those of policemen, forcing the police to use tear-gas shells to disperse them. Several policemen were injured in the clash.

Soon after the clash, a number of those involved in the violence fled the city and had sought refuge in Agra.

It would have been difficult to gather information about these "mischief-makers" directly from civilians and hence, it was decided to go undercover and track them down, Kumar said.

Setting the plan in motion, Sub-Inspector Sunil Tomar of Mantola police station took the disguise of a vendor selling bananas and set out in Agra city on Tuesday.

The plan was to move around and try and locate the perpetrators.

The SHO added that the plan worked and the trouble-makers were arrested. He, however, refused to divulge any details of those arrested.

Inspector sells banana’s on the streets of Agra, reason will surprise you

There have been incidents of violence after protests against CAA and NRC. In the middle of this, Agra remained largely peaceful, the reason behind is being attributed to smart policing.

Agra: The country has been witnessing violent protests against the controversial CAA and NRC. Property worth crores has been damaged and more than 20 people have lost their lives in these protests. In the midst of this, Agra remained calm and peaceful throughout. The city once again presented an example of love and brotherhood. To maintain peace and calm in the city, a policeman disguised himself as a street vendor.

On Tuesday, the district police disguised and gave protection to local people of the city. Based on the inputs received by the police, a Chowki incharge disguised himself to identify the antisocial elements. He even got himself clean shaved to perfect the act. Disguised as a street vendor, SI Sunil Tomar spent the entire day on the streets of the Mantola area. Based on his ground analysis he prepared a detailed report and submitted to his seniors. The senior cops of the city are now working on a strategy based on this report. SI Sunil Kumar is being hailed by the entire police department for his out of the way approach. Inputs of miscreants were received

Mantola is the most sensitive area of the Agra city, which has been witness to a lot of unrest in the past. Local Police got intel last Friday, that there are chances of miscreants creating trouble in the area. The police swung into action and started keeping an eye on all the suspicious elements. In this exercise, the police kept a tab on the situation in disguise. This was the reason that despite countrywide violent protests against CAA and NRC, Agra largely remained peaceful.

Senior officers were appraised of the input

ASI, Sunil Tomar was tipped on Tuesday that miscreants from, Firozabad, Meerut and other cities might try to disrupt peace in the city. The same was informed to his seniors, post which the seniors instructed them to keep an eye on suspicious elements from the area. Cop became a street vendor and got him shaved

ASI Sunil Kumar got his beard and moustache shaved. He got into the guise of a banana seller and rented a cart of a fruit seller for 200 rupees. It was decided with the fruitseller, that the proceeds of sales will be handed over to him and an additional 200 rupees will be give to him as rent. The SI spent additional 250 rupees to buy props for the disguise.

For five hours the cop walked the lanes of the area

Disguised as a fruit seller, ASI, Sunil wandered in the streets of the area on Tuesday, between 12:30 to 5:30 pm. During this time he came across a number of local cops, but no one could make out that it is one of their colleagues in disguise. Sunil says that the inspector of the Mantola police station himself couldn't recognise him. In the evening he parked the cart and in plain clothes went to all the crowded areas and collected information. Late night at 9 pm he briefed the senior officers about the information collected by him.

ASI performed out of the way

Udayraj SIngh, CO, Chata, says that Chowki incharge of Subhash Bazaar, Sunil Tomar got the information that some miscreants are in the area. He was instructed to keep an eye on them in plain clothes. He went out of the way to perform his duty, which is commendable. He would also be writing about the same to senior officers.

This act of collecting information in disguise has earned the cop appreciation from all rank and file of the police force. He has also become the talk of the town. Whereas, based on the intel received from the ASI, the senior officers are making a plan to keep the beautiful city of Agra free from any tension.
