Shamli: In a viral video from Kairana in Uttar Pradesh, an SP MLA Nahid Hasan is seen advising Muslim community members of Kairana to boycott shopkeepers who are BJP supporters.
Hasan is seen urging his community members in Kairana and nearby villages not to buy anything from shops owned by BJP supporters.
"For 10 days, one month, go elsewhere, to other villages but for solidarity with your brothers, face some hardships. Boycott these BJP people in the market. Only then things will improve. Their homes flourish because we buy things from them. And that's exactly why we suffer," he is heard saying.
The video has stoked controversy in the area as Kairana is a communally sensitive area and the place was in the news few years ago after reports surfaced that Hindus were leaving Kairana due to the fear of Muslims.
"A special team has been formed headed by Additional SP Shamli to probe the incident. Currently, Section 144 is imposed in the region and strict actions would be taken by the authorities after the investigation", said Ajay Kumar, SP Shamli
The population of Muslims in Kairana is believed to be above 60 per cent.
