Sultanpur (Uttar Pradesh): International shooter Vartika Singh has filed a case of defamation against Union Minister Smriti Irani and her aides a court in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the MP-MLA court in Sultanpur has fixed January 11 as the next date of hearing of the case.
According to sources, Vartika Singh alleged that she was misled by Smriti Irani and her close contacts who informed that the rate for being a member of the Central Commission for Women was Rs 1 crore, but looking at her profile, they have reduced it to Rs 25 Lakh.
Speaking to media persons, Singh said, "I had filed a case of defamation against Union Minister Smriti Irani and her aides for maligning my image. I do not have any relationship with any political party."
"The two aides of the Union Minister, initially demanded Rs 1 crore from her and then brought the amount down to Rs 25 lakh. People close to the minister issued me a fake letter, appointing me as a member of the central women's commission, a possible reference to the National Commission for Women," she alleged.
Vartika though claimed that the complaint was lodged after she threatened to expose "corruption".
"Today we have filed a defamation suit against Smriti Irani in Sultanpur court. In which she called Vartika the pawn of Congress. Judge PK Jayant fixed January 11 as the next date for arguments over admission," Vartika’s advocate, Rajesh Tiwari said.
