Postal dept to allow Speed Post of funeral ashes to Varanasi, 3 other cities

The Department of Posts has announced a new initiative allowing the dispatch of cremated remains and ashes via Speed Post to Varanasi, Prayagraj, Haridwar, and Gaya. Om Divya Darshan, a socio-religious organisation, which has associated with the department for the initiative, will complete the rituals including the immersion of mortal remains which are sent by post.

Varanasi: The tradition of immersion of ashes in the holy Ganga River is a key ritual in Hinduism. People from all over the country come to the ghats of Varanasi, Prayagraj, Haridwar, and Gaya to immerse the ashes of deceased family members into the Ganges. However, due to Covid lockdown, this age-old tradition has been hampered. Now the Department of Posts has announced a new initiative along with a socio-religious organisation, Om Divya Darshan.

Under this initiative, The Department of Posts has announced a new initiative allowing the dispatch of cremated remains and ashes via Speed Post to Varanasi, Prayagraj, Haridwar, and Gaya. The ceremonial rituals will be completed by Om Divya Darshan.

Krishna Kumar Yadav, the Postmaster General of Varanasi Zone, said that to avail of the facility, a person has to get himself registered on the portal of Om Divya Darshan Sanstha at http://omdivysdarshan.org.

After registration, the packet of ashes can be sent by the said person through the post office by Speed Post to Varanasi, Prayagraj, Haridwar and Gaya. After packing the ashes properly, 'Om Divya Darshan' will have to be written on it in bold letters so that they can be identified separately.

The sender will have to write his full name, address, mobile number, etc. on the packet. The Speed Post charges will be borne by the sender only. After booking the Speed ​​Post, the sender will have to update the booking details including the Speed ​​Post bar code number on the portal of Om Divya Darshan Sanstha.

The postmaster told that after receiving the packet, it will be delivered to the address of Om Divya Darshan. After this, Om Divya Darshan Sanstha will take care of the rituals of ashes immersion and other rituals. The family members of the deceased will also be able to watch it through webcast. After all the rituals, a bottle of Ganga water will also be sent by the post office to the family of the deceased by the institution.
