Sant Kabir Nagar (Uttar Pradesh): Parents make a priceless contribution in building the family against all odds and bring up their children with all possible care. It is everybody’s responsibility to ensure that they get due respect throughout their life.
The day of October 1 has been dedicated in respect to the elderly people among us. It is globally celebrated as the International Day of Older Persons. On this occasion, the ETV Bharat team reached the old age home here and interacted with them.
While talking in front of the camera, they shared their pain. They said they are living in the old age home not out of their happiness but because of the torture they used to suffer at home in the hands of their own children.
They said that they at least get two meals and a bed to sleep over here, which were not so easily available for them at their own sweet homes, which they built and made to grow with their sweat.
Come to old age when left with no option
These elderly people have brought up their children with an immense amount of love and affection. Today, they have been discarded by their own children when they needed them the most in the twilight of their life. Left with no option, they came to the old age home. While talking to the ETV Bharat team, they said that they get both meals and beds to sleep over, which were denied to them by their own children.
Celebration postponed due to COVID
Every year, October 1 is celebrated as the International Day of Old Persons as a mark of respect to the elderly people among us. Normally, the day is celebrated by organizing various programmes at different places, which could not happen this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. The old age home at Sant Kabirnagar is run by Kisan Sewa Sansthan. It also gets some financial aid from the Welfare Department. At present, thirty-five senior citizens are residing in this old age home. Prabhawati, an inmate, said that she used to be tortured by her daughter-in-law. Fed up with the violent and abusive behaviour of her own kin, she decided to shift herself to the old age home.
'Children should take care of their parents'
Vishnu Upadhyay, the manager of the old age home, said that only those elderly people come here who are subjected to multiple tortures by their own children at home. He called upon all to take care of their old parents as they have brought them up with love and affection.
