Azamgarh jail launches unique voter awareness campaign

Azamgarh Jail has started a voter awareness campaign in which family members of the detainees will have a stamp on their hand saying 'Do vote for sure in 2019 elections'. The campaign aims at motivating people to participate in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Azamgarh: The district jail has started a unique initiative to increase the voting percentage. Under this initiative, family members who come to meet the detainees will have a stamp on their hand saying, 'Do vote for sure in 2019 election'. The main reason behind this experiment is to increase voting awareness and motivate people to participate in large numbers in the upcoming elections.

In an interaction with ETV Bharat, the jail superintendent RK Mishra said that everyday around 200 people come to visit their family members who have been detained. So far the voting percentage has been 56% for this district, keeping that in mind the Mishra has started this move to motivate people to vote in large numbers.

Unlike other districts, he also wants the voting percentage of this district to cross the 60% benchmark through this initiative.

Compared to the not-so-good voting percentage of this district, other districts have improved due similar voting awareness campaigns. Only time will tell whether this experiment was successful enough to accomplish the desired result.
