J&K encounter: Pall of gloom descends on deceased soldier's village in UP

The deceased jawan, who was martyred during an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district, has been identified as Pinku Kumar, a resident of Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat district.

Baghpat (Uttar Pradesh): One Army soldier, identified as Pinku Kumar of Uttar Pradesh was killed during an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district.

The encounter broke out on Saturday evening when the terrorists fired upon the security forces during a search operation at the Wangam area of Shopian.

Following this, Army officials informed about the martyrdom of Pinku to the family at night and a pall of gloom descended in the village after getting the death news of the soldier.

According to officials, Kumar belonged to 34 Rashtriya Rifles and had sustained grievous injuries during a gunfight with militants at Shopian's Wangam village.

Kumar, a resident of Luhari village in Baghpat district, joined the 6 Jat Regiment in 2001. In 2005, he was married to Kavita, a resident of Soram Goyla village in Muzaffarnagar. Pinku was survived by three children, parents and his wife.
