Prayagraj: Members of Vrikshamaal Abhiyan and Mundmal Ganga Parikrama reached Prayagraj on Wednesday after concluding their 5,900 km-long foot-march for the cleanliness of the river Ganges under Atulya Ganga Mission. The foot march ended at Samudra Koop in Jhusi with Maha Aarti of Goddess Ganga to seek blessings.
Atulya Ganga Mission's founder ex-Army officer Gopal Sharma, Lieutenant Colonel Hem Lohmi and Colonel Manoj Keshawar launched the foot march on December 15, 2020, in Prayagraj to create awareness among people over protecting and cleaning river Ganges. The members covered several villages on foot to reach out to the people residing near the banks of the Ganges.

According to Gopal Sharma, people must unite to keep the holy river clean and along with the government, it is also the responsibility of people to protect water bodies. Atulya Ganga Mission has also identified drains that fall in the Ganges by testing them under 12 parameters to check the pollution level of the water body. Apart from this, Green India Foundation, in association with Atulya Ganga Mission, was running Vrikshamaal Abhiyan under the leadership of Vijay Shukla and Kaleshwar Mishra.

The Vrikshamaal Abhiyan planted around 35,000 saplings at different locations during the journey. Members of the Vrikshamaal Abhiyan also distributed nearly 47,000 saplings to nature lovers. During this campaign, the Green India Foundation also helped 76,000 students in planting trees on the banks of the river Ganges.
