Sonbhadra: India is in it's 73rd year of independence but there are many villages in India which are prisoned. They are prisoned in darkness due to the absence of electricity.
Despite lofty promises made by the government of making India 100 percent electrified, many villages are without any electricity.
One such village in Uttar Pradesh is Sonbhadra which still awaits for electricity connection. Villagers accuse officials for not implementing the government orders.
"Officials once came and constructed electric pillars and even placed meters outside our homes but never acted beyond that. It's been a year since they last came. We are still waiting for it," says Savitri Devi, a villager.
Children's education is being affected due to the absence of electricity.
"We are trying our best to provide them with the facility. Electricity might be resumed within three days. The work is underway," said Vivek Kumar, Sub Divisonal Officer.
