Dead and not alive get ration through PDS in Jaunpur

People in Jaunpur district have complaint of not getting ration being distributed through Public Distribution System (PDS). They said that "dead people" are still being issued ration in their names whereas those alive do not get anything.

Jaunpur: Amid coronavirus crisis when people are expected to work unitedly to deal with the situation, a serious instance of corruption has come to the fore in Kasturipur village of Badlapur administrative division of the district wherein ghost ration card holders are taking rations through Public Distribution System (PDS).

People speaking to ETV Bharat said that they tried to get their ration card updated but nothing was done, and when it comes to ration distribution, the powerful of the village get it even in the name of those died long ago.


"People who are alive do not get ration as their name is not added in the ration cards even after repeated requests but the dead still figure in the list and ration is being given out in their names," alleged the villagers.


An old woman - Anara Devi - says she does not get anything from the ration shop. Similar views were expressed by one Nanhe Nishad, who said he has complaint against people involved in the corrupt practice.


"No action has been taken against anyone till date," he said.
