Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh): The Congress on Tuesday lashed out at the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh over the issue of women's safety, after a 19-year-old student was killed in a road accident in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr.

Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Kumar Lallu said women were not safe in the state under 'jungle raaj'.

Referring to the Bulandshahr incident, Lallu said, "When such an infuriating, sad incident has happened, the UP government has been reduced to a mere spectator."

"On one hand the government talks about beti bachao beti padhao and women empowerment, but when its own lawmakers are involved in incidents, it tries to save them," he added.

Lallu said that the increasing incidents of crime against women have revealed the true law and order situation in the state. "UP government is care-free, law and order situation has been destroyed," he said.

Echoing similar views, senior Congress leader and former Rajya Sabha MP Pramod Tiwari said the people of the state were fast losing their confidence on the government.

"This incident was an attack on each parent's sense of security (for their daughters). The BJP government should have some shame. The culprits must be nabbed quickly. The people are fast losing their trust on the UP government," he said.

A 19-year-old from Dadri district, who was studying in Babson College in Massachusetts was killed in a road accident while she was on her way to Bulandshahr on a two-wheeler. She was allegedly being chased by harassers while she was going to meet her relatives with her uncle.

"The men were passing comments on her and were trying to overtake her vehicle performing stunts to impress her. Suddenly, their Bullet hit her scooty and she lost balance. She died on the spot," the victim's uncle said.
