Varanasi: Keeping the Swachhta survey in mind, Varanasi Municipal Corporation will introduce barcoding through radio frequency identification technology to ensure 100% door-to-door garbage collection in the city.
It will be done under the Smart Cities Mission for which contract has been signed with a company in Mumbai.
Sanitary workers will have to scan the code after collecting trash from a house.
The scanning will send a message to the civic body’s control room. The system is expected to make sanitary workers cover an entire area without skipping any house.
If a worker will not cover the allotted area, the control room will receive a pop-up alert.
It is to be noted that Varanasi had been scoring poorly in the All India Swachhta Ranking because of poor waste management.
