Pratapgarh (Uttar Pradesh): The three shooters involved in the murder of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf Ahmed were remanded in 14 days of judicial custody by the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court on Saturday. According to sources, the three accused were produced before Justice Dinesh Kumar Gautam in the CJM Court of Prayagraj through video conferencing.
The next hearing will be held on May 12. The STF engaged in the investigation of the murder reached Pratapgarh Jail late on Tuesday night. The three accused Lavlesh Singh, Arun Maurya and Sunny Singh were interrogated for five hours. On Tuesday, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) of the jail also reached Pratapgarh District Jail on Wednesday.

During this time, barracks were checked. He then checked the security system in the jail. The security arrangements around the shooters were checked. It may be recalled that Atiq and Ashraf were killed by three shooters on April 15. Both were in handcuffs and were shot dead by three men posing as journalists when they were answering reporters' queries while being escorted by police personnel to a medical college in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj for a checkup.
Just hours before the shooting, the last rites of Ahmad's son Asad, who along with one of his associates, was gunned down in a police encounter in Jhansi on April 13, were conducted.
