Mirzapur (UP): In yet another shocker from Uttar Pradesh, a matter of feeding midday meal to 32 children with just 1 kg rice and 400 grams of milk has come to light from the Middle school Baraini in Mirzapur.
This incident comes months after a school in Mirzapur was found serving salt and roti to children in the name of midday meals.
According to sources, the Circle coordinator, Rakesh Kumar Tiwari along with his team had gone to inspect the school where they found such laxity.
Denying the allegation, the maid of the school said that not one but more than 2 kg of rice and approx 5 litres of milk were there.
Speaking on this to ETV Bharat, Sushil Kumar Patel, District Magistrate, said that he has ordered an inquiry as soon as the matter came to his notice.
"Such laxity will not be tolerated. I have asked a detailed report on this from the authority and a probe has been ordered into the matter," he added.
The locals alleged that the school had only been serving paltry meals to the children. They also said that no action has been taken in spite of bringing this to the notice of concerned officials.
"It has become norm to serve pathetic meals to children. They don't provide proper milk to children and they also take fruits to their homes. We complained umpteen number of times to the concerned officials but no action has been taken yet," said a resident.
It is to be noted that the government had launched the midday meal scheme with an aim to increase students' enrolment and check the dropout rate in rural and semi-urban areas.
