The police and medical teams had faced opposition in several areas where they had gone to locate Tablighi Jamaat followers suspected to have been carrying coronavirus.

Photographs and videos have been doing rounds on social media showing some people misbehaving with policemen and medical teams.

The warm welcome that policemen received in Amroha district from Muslims belied the general impression conveyed by media that Muslims were opposing those fighting coronavirus.

Muslims have been subjected to ridicule because of the Tablighi Jamaat who had held a gathering of over a couple of thousand devotees in Nizamuddin, Delhi recently.

Locals believe that policemen deserve such appreciation and welcome as they are risking their lives while patrolling on the streets to implement the countrywide lockdown.

“If people extend such cooperation the police would be able to perform their duty with renewed vigour," SP Ajay Pratap said.
