Etawah: Six criminals, who used to loot people on the highway, have been arrested after a late night encounter here, police said.
Their leader, identified as Saurabh Kathera, was injured in the encounter and has been admitted to a hospital, they said.
The police said a tip-off was received that some criminals were seen with weapons on the highway, following which a police party from Bakewar police station along with the crime branch personnel chased them.
"...as they were being chased, the criminal started firing on the police party and Saurabh Kathera got hit on the leg as the police responded to their firing," Superintendent of Police Omvir Singh told ETV Bharat, adding that recently looted Rs 60,000 and a motorcycle were also recovered from them.
He said the arrested are being interrogated and further probe is on.
