Ghazipur (Uttar Pradesh): Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced that the Uttar Pradesh government will take full responsibility of a 21-day-old baby girl, who was found in a wooden box floating in the Ganges near Dadri Ghat in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur city on Monday morning. The government said it will ensure its proper upbringing.
A 21-day old baby girl was found abandoned in a wooden box floating in the Ganga river in Ghazipur district. A boatman, Gullu, on hearing cries of the infant coming from the box, pulled it over only to find her locked up inside. The box had images of Goddess Durga and Lord Vishnu. The baby's birth chart was found tied around her waist. From the horoscope, it was identified that she was named Ganga.
Gullu took the infant to his house, where she was given a bath and fed milk. It isn't clear as to who packed her in the box and abandoned her in the river. However, on Monday evening, a couple approached Gullu's residence claiming that they were her parents. But Gullu's family members were reluctant to hand over the infant saying it was Mother Ganga that blessed them with the child and hence they would look after her.
On Tuesday, Gullu filed a police case and submitted an application to the district magistrate in this regard. The DM assured him that the issue will be resolved in a week.
