Ghaziabad: In a major haul, the Uttar Pradesh police on Friday seized 120 kilograms of gold and detained at least three people in this connection in Ghaziabad's Modinagar area.
According to sources, police recovered 120 kgs of gold from a car while conducting a checking in Modinagar area.
The police have informed the income tax department.
The driver of the car and two security guards were arrested in connection with the matter, police said.
Superintendent of police Neeraj Kumar said that an investigation is underway.
"The income tax department will decide whether the seized gold is legal or not. However, we also have to check the gold is original or fake," said SP Kumar.
This is termed as one of the biggest recoveries ahead of 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
