Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President N Uttam Kumar Reddy has resigned on Friday after the party's poor performance in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) polls.

In the municipal elections, the Congress party won only two seats. The party also saw a drastic failure in the recent Dubbak by-election.

In a statement, Reddy said he has submitted the resignation and asked the All India Congress Committee to take up the process of selection for a new TPCC president immediately.

"I have submitted my resignation from the post of President of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee. I have requested the AICC to take up the process of selection of new President of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee immediately," Reddy said in a statement.

Reddy has been serving as party's Telangana chief since 2014. During his tenure, Congress had lost 2014 and 2019 elections. Meanwhile, Reddy also asked the Congress high command to elect a new president for TPCC.
