Nehru Zoological Park Safari temporarily closed after heavy rainfall

Nehru Zoological Park's Safari has been temporarily closed due to heavy inflow of water from Mir Alam Tank after heavy rainfall in Hyderabad. The Mir Alam Tank is filled with rainwater and the excess water is entering into the ponds from the safari side.

Hyderabad: The Safari Park at Nehru Zoological Park was temporarily closed on Saturday due to heavy inflow of water from the adjoining Mir Alam Tank after incessant rains in the city.

According to the park officials, all efforts are being made to drain out the excess flow by maintaining the water channel, drainage channels and pumping out of the water from the moats.

The Mir Alam Tank is filled with rainwater and the excess water is entering into the ponds from the safari side. This water is overflowing over the arch bunds and seeping through the Mir Alam tank arch bunds and into the zoo, an official said.

Due to inundation of the Lion Safari area near the entrance, the animals were not released from safety keeping their health and safety in mind and there is an inconvenience in running the safari buses.

To overcome this situation the zoo management after putting a constant vigil on the water flow the Safari Park complex is closed temporarily for the visitors today.

Nehru Zoological Park officials, along with Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and irrigation officials, reviewed the situation and instructed the zoo staff to be on constant vigil on the water flow.

    THE GREAT FLORAL FESTIVAL STARTS IN TELANGANA FROM TODAY



Bathukamma, the floral festival of Telangana, is all set to commence on a vibrant note on Saturday. The nine-day festival begins on Mahalaya Amavasya, also known as Pethra Amavasya, with Engili Poola Bathukamma.

The first day of Bathukamma is celebrated with the naivedyam prepared of sesame seeds with rice flour.

The festival ends with the Saddula Bathukamma also known as Durgashtami with the women dressed in traditional attire forming a circle and playing around the Bathukamma, a stack of seven concentric layers in a conical mound made of different flowers, and dance before immersing it in a water body. The day offers a fiesta to food lovers with five varieties - curd rice, tamarind rice, lemon rice, coconut rice and sesame rice.

    During the days, women clean their courtyard. The cow dung is then mixed with water and spread throughout as the ground-base. Then it is further decorated with a rangoli which is made of rice flour.

The men collect the flowers of vibrant colours and types for the preparations. There flowers are mainly; Celosia, Senna, Marigold, Lotus, Cucurbita, Cucumis etc. The preparations and decorating the rangoli and other things is folk art and generally, the preparations begin from afternoon.
