Hyderabad (Telangana): Rani Kumudini Devi was elected first women mayor of Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. She was born on 23 January 1911 in Vadepalli village in Warangal district. She was the daughter of Pingle Venaktaramana Reddy former Deputy Prime Minister of Hyderabad. She was from the Vanaparthi royal family and served as the Chairman of the Health Committee in the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad (MCH). She was elected as the first woman mayor in 1962. She served as Mayor from 1962 to 1964. Rani Kumudini Devi was elected as Member of the legislative assembly in Wanaparthy constituency in 1972.
Second Women mayor in Hyderabad
Sarojini Pullareddy was elected second women mayor in Hyderabad. She was elected MCH Councilor from the Congress in 1965 and became the City Mayor. She served as mayor from 1965 to 1969. She was elected as the first Chairman of the Hyderabad Urban Development Authority in 1975. She was elected as MLA Twice from Malakpet constituency. Sarojini Pullareddy had good relations with the first woman Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and served as a member of the Congress Working Committee in 2001.
First Women Mayor In GHMC
As the formation of the GHMC in 2007 Banda Karthika Reddy elected was the First women candidate as a mayor. Elections were conducted for the first time in 2009. She was elected as a first-time corporator from Tarnaka as no other candidate was nominated by any party. She served as the Vice-Chairman of All India Mayors Council in 2010.
First Time two women elected for GHMC
For the first time in GHMC Mayor elections, two women candidates have been elected the post of City Mayor and Deputy Mayor. Vijayalakshmi Gadwal has been elected as Mayor from TRS. She won Banjara Hills corporator's seat in GHMC elections and is the daughter of TRS Leader K. Kesavaravo. Mothe Srilatha Reddy has been elected deputy mayor for the first time. She won Tarnaka corporator's seat in GHMC elections.
