Madurai (Tamil Nadu): The transgender community of Madurai has filed a petition to change the election dates in Tamil Nadu as the polls are clashing with the Chithirai festival in the city.

Chithirai festival lasts for a month and is one of the longest celebrated festivals in the world.

The festival celebrates to re-enact wedding of Lord Shiva and Goddess Meenakshi.

Chithirai festival lasts for a month and is one of the longest celebrated festivals in the world. The festival celebrates to re-enact wedding of Lord Shiva and Goddess Meenakshi. Earlier, transgender community had put plea to change the date.
