Tamil Nadu: In a drive aimed at commemorating the 'World Earth Day', observed every year on April 22, a team of 10 scuba divers, including officials of the Mandapam forest department, conducted a cleanliness drive, underwater, in Palk Bay on Thursday.
Forest department joined hands with the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) in a bid to create awareness on coastal cleanliness.

Ten trained scuba divers including two girls, touched the bottom of the ocean to clear plastic from the corals. They recovered 25 kg plastic waste that included carry bags and food wrappers.

A group comprised of foresters, anti-poaching watchers, scuba diving instructors and WII research scholars participated in the cause. Forest range officer S Satish led the team.
